Nigeria's 100,000MW by 2030

In Nigeria, we do not care for facts. A bank CEO can wake up one morning, and claim he would add 30 million customers within three years when for over a century it did not break 15 million customers. About ten months later, the overall number of bank users shrank by 2 million. Technically, banks are losing customers. From private sector to public sector, we do not like facts. Yes, Nigeria released 100 aircrafts to search for missing girls kidnapped by Boko Haram! Oh yes, the rice mills in Thailand are folding because of Nigeria’s self-sufficiency on rice! The latest one is that Nigeria would generate 100,000MW of electricity by 2030.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) on Monday predicted a growth of up to 100,000 megawatts electricity generation in the country by 2030. Eli Bala, the ECN’s Director-General, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Recall that from 1914 to 2017, Nigeria has produced about 8,000 MW. Then a DG woke up and told the world that within 12 years, Nigeria would hit 100,000MW. How? Economy would grow 7% and the strategic plan on power is supreme. You can now see why people do not respect us at airports around the world. We are not good with facts.

By not learning to be realistic with numbers, we put ourselves in positions we have no reason to benchmark anything.  Nigeria cannot hit 100,000MW by 2030. Maybe 20,000MW could have offered us something realistic but that is small for the giant of Africa. Do not run your business that way; you would look stupid before investors and partners.

It's even a disgrace to throw unverifiable numbers around, and there are too many disgraceful creatures in the land. This is a country where a lot people in important positions always appear to be drunk or high on something, even without taken anything.

Any entrepreneur or business owner that got possessed by whatever force holding these creatures, it means that the business is going to suffer from the same thing the country is already suffering from. You must completely be decoupled from 'Nigeria's system', if you are to be taken seriously.
