This is really revealing: the scarcity of computer chips is affecting the restaurant industry in US.

The global computer chip shortage is posing a threat to the nation's restaurant industry. The Washington Post says the shortage, which limits “point of sale” machines such as servers’ handheld ordering devices, may be the reason for the industry’s delayed growth. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, food service is still down more than 2 million from its pre-pandemic level. Today, workers are even further driven away by the advent of contactless payment options — a method that 40 percent of all food businesses use today, according to the National Restaurant Association.
