Savers Got Some Wins in Nigeria

Nigeria’s Central Bank Increases Interest Rates Paid on Savings Accounts to 4.2%

A great call from CBN, we need to give savers some wins: "The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has carried out an upward review on interest rates paid on savings accounts, directing banks to implement at least 4.2% interest payment on depositors’ funds." Yet, if you look deeper with "99.4 % of bank accounts contain[ing] less than N500,000" in balance in Nigeria, the real winners are those with truckloads of money as the poor have no savings.

Nonetheless, this is a good policy; possibly some could be encouraged to save.
