Amazon is causing more disruptions in American retail than Covid-19 just by looking at this plot. In 2019 with no coronavirus, 9,300 store closures were announced in the U.S.; this year with the covid of course, the number is 8,325 so far. This is pure disruption at scale and gives us a window into the future design of retail and markets: online would be the stable state of business.
