The 30-year-old Bekah Martinez, who competed on season 22 of the show back in 2018, has a reputation for standing up for herself, so when someone criticized her decision to grow out her leg hair, she responded to the hate. On July 9, Bekah, who has been engaged to Grayston Leonard since 2022, shared that she received a comment that read, "Your face does not jive with your hairy legs. Grey must be grossed out." In response, she was open about why she made her decision.
"I started sneaking my mom's razors in 3rd grade. I remember praying to God that he'd remove all my hair from the neck down. Family, friends, and even teachers and coaches would gently tease when any of my jet-black leg stubble was growing out," she clarified. "It was seemingly harmless but continued to reinforce that my body's hair was wrong."
Bekah, who has children with Grayston, including Ruth, 6, Franklin, 5, and Ernest, 21 months, continued by saying she does not want her kids to experience the same negative effects of beauty standards that she did.
"I stopped shaving when I was pregnant with my first child. I wanted my daughter (and my future sons) to see that hair on a woman's body is normal," she went on. "Not shameful. Not gross. I wanted to demonstrate that body hair is not masculine. because I am a woman. And so, my body hair is feminine."
Ultimately, she wrote in the caption that her fiancé does not disagree with her choice, "And for the record, Gray went to a liberal arts college in Oregon, so he’s had his fair share of gross razor-less women." Additionally, Grayson reportedly wrote, echoing the notion, "Love you and your hairy legs."
