The next professional is already being trained by Robert Irwin. The host of Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro revealed endearing details about his relationship with Grace, the five-year-old daughter of sister Bindi Irwin, describing how he's getting 10s all around with his niece.
"Uncle Robert has earned some further cool points because now I can teach Grace how to dance," Robert informed news organizations directly. "She's very happy about that."
Despite all of that, since his family flew to Los Angeles to support him as he competed on DWTS, the season 34 Mirrorball champion was able to spend more time alone with his niece throughout the past year. Additionally, Robert's "doorstep" in Brisbane, Australia—less than an hour away from his house—was used for filming ABC's upcoming spin-off series, The Next Pro.
"We even shot an episode of it at Australia Zoo," the 22-year-old mentioned, "so it was really special."
And Grace would be prepared for her dance classes with her uncle when he returned home to record episodes of his new show, which would debut on ABC on July 13.
"Every day I get back from shooting and Grace, my little niece, is like, 'OK, teach me how to do the jive. Teach me how to do the tango,'" Robert clarified. "She's very little, so it's a little bit challenging, but she's such a bright and happy kid."
Becoming an uncle is the most significant function the animal conservationist plays in both his personal and professional life; Robert refers to it as the "best job" he has ever had.
"I love her with all my heart," he remarked of his niece. He then praised Bindi and her husband, Chandler Powell, calling them "incredible parents." Bindi and her husband welcomed Grace in 2021.
For Robert, family is perhaps the most important thing.
"Family to me is everything," he revealed. "When I can do a project like [The Next Pro], which is a family-based show, amongst my family and my dance family, it was very special."
"Behind the scenes," Robert added, "this was one of the greatest things I've ever worked on."
ABC will debut Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro on July 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with episodes accessible on Disney+ and Hulu the next day.
