Ryan Seacrest isn’t convinced that engagement rings are truly worth the investment

It's possible that Ryan Seacrest won't get married. Actually, given that many couples might utilize the money they would spend on a ring elsewhere in their lives, the American Idol presenter questioned the significance of engagement rings lately.
"A lot of couples are saying, 'Hey, is the engagement ring really worth it?' What's the average cost? $10,000?” on the April 7 broadcast of On Air With Ryan Seacrest, Ryan made this statement. “Average cost of an engagement ring in the U.S., $10,000. Think about what you could do with your partner for $10,000.”

"How important is the engagement ring?" asked the 51-year-old, who broke up with partner Aubrey Paige in 2024.
Furthermore, he pointed out that many couples are beginning to consider the price "practically." Co-host Sisanie Villaclara clarified that, "way back in the day," engagement rings were merely "simple bands" rather than the enormous stones we typically see today.
Ryan therefore recognizes the advantages of forgoing a pricey ring in favor of using the funds for travel or property purchases. As it happens, should he ever pop the question, he is already preparing for a similar event.
"I honestly think—and I'm gonna say this—because when I meet my human, and it's that time, we're gonna have experiences together," he added. "We're gonna focus on building our bond. Doing things together."
"We're gonna go on adventures together. That's what we're gonna think about. We're not thinking about jewelry,” Ryan went on to say. “We’re thinking about adventures and building something together, and that's what we want to do. That should be the priority."
Although Ryan hasn't proposed yet, the Wheel of Fortune host, who has dated Julianne Hough and Shayna Taylor in the past, acknowledged that he nearly did.
“I did get close and I didn’t do it,” in a May 2017 episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan, he informed Kelly Ripa. “It was the right move, but I love the idea [of marriage].”

How come he was holding off on getting married?
“I have this thing that I don’t want to screw it up, and a lot of times, they get screwed up,” he clarified, adding jokingly, “I figure the longer I wait, the older I’ll be, the closer to death I am—so I can get it in and not screw it up.”
