Anthropic Rolls Out New AI Chabot Model to Challenge OpenAI ChatGPT, Others

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has launched a new version of its Claude chatbot model to challenge OpenAI ChatGPT and other AI Chatbots.

The company claims that its new AI model Claude 3.5 Sonnet, will raise the industry bar for intelligence, outperforming competitor models on a wide range of evaluations.

Anthropic claims that the Claude 3.5 Sonnet can independently write, edit, and execute code. It also comes with reasoning and troubleshooting capabilities that enable it to perform complex tasks such as code translation. 

Apart from the text and coding-based upgrades, the new AI model also gets improved computer vision, which enables it to transcribe text from imperfect images, graphics, or illustrations. A new Artifact feature has also been included with the new AI chatbot. It is a sandbox-style preview window that opens when the AI is asked to generate content such as code snippets, text documents, or website designs. Users can see, edit, and build upon Claude’s generation.

From there, users can prompt Claude to make changes, and it will keep the Artifacts window updated with its latest output. The company sees Artifacts as a first step towards making Claude a space for broader team collaboration.

The company wrote via a press release,

“In the near future, teams and eventually entire organizations will be able to securely centralize their knowledge, documents, and ongoing work in one shared space, with Claude serving as an on-demand teammates”.

For consumers, the company has made the Claude 3.5 Sonnet available for free at Claude.ai and in an iOS app. It also is letting web users opt into a setting called “Artifacts.” This organizes the content that users prompt Claude to generate whether the outline for a novel or a simple computer game in a window display alongside their chat with Al.

The launch of this new chatbot is coming out three months after the AI firm unveiled the Claude 3 family of artificial intelligence (AI) models. Anthropic revealed that the latest AI model can outperform Claude 3 Opus, the most capable model from the previous generation.

Anthropic plans to release more AI models this year, including Claude 3.5 Opus, it said. “We want to have as fast a release cycle as we can, again, subject to our safety values,”

As regards to users safety, the company  stated that Claude 3.5 Sonnet remains at ASL-2 (AI Safety Level 2) standard. As per the AI firm’s Responsible Scaling Policy, ASL-2 refers to systems that show early signs of dangerous capabilities (such as providing instructions to create a bioweapon) but are not considered useful due to lack of reliability and that the information is already available publicly.

Beyond the safety rating, Anthropic also claimed that it has engaged with external experts to test and improve safety mechanisms with Claude 3.5 Sonnet. The AI model was also provided to the UK’s Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (UK AISI) for evaluation before it was deployed.

Question: How can I improve my productivity?

Ndubuisi: Simple answer: improve your PROCESS. And the simplest way is to have a text file in your laptop/phone or a diary on your desk. Daily (early in the morning or late in the evening), write down  what you want to get done. As the day goes, and tasks are done, cross or delete them.

If you put 5 minutes before bed or early in the morning to think over what you want to accomplish in a day, you will improve productivity by at least 2 hours. Productivity does not mean working all the time; it means working in the right direction.

As I have written, Effort is a scalar quantity (only magnitude with no direction) while Productivity is a vector quantity (has both magnitude and direction). Any person can put an effort but when you put effort on the right things (yes, the right direction), great things happen because the world is built by people with directions. Yes, the world is built on vectors!

Think of the WAEC (high school final exam): if you put 5 minutes to plan your answers, giving strategic spaces on your answer sheets before jumping into writing and answering, the outcome will improve. Some students will just begin with no planning only to finish 45 minutes before time with spaces locked that nothing more could be added.

While a student with a process has mentally planned, making space in ways that he/she could return to deepen the answers. Simply, do you have time to even think over the task before you jump in? That thinking is where creativity comes.

Creativity is a big cousin of Productivity but only the thinking and planning people #create. PROCESS wins all the time.

Abia State Set to Establish Oil Refinery with PETAN Partnership

In another bold move to elevate Abia State’s economic and industrial profile, Governor Alex Otti has committed his administration to support the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) in establishing an oil refinery within the state.

This announcement came during a meeting with a PETAN delegation, led by its Chairman, Engr. Wole Ogunsanya, who visited to explore the feasibility of this significant project.

Otti expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the state’s readiness to engage with PETAN to ensure the refinery’s success. He highlighted the potential for a joint venture, reflecting a proactive approach to collaboration and development.

“We have some assets that have been identified beyond Ukwa West. Oil activities today in Abia are centered around Ukwa West, and I have it on good authority that other areas of the state have reserves that could be harnessed,” Otti remarked. “By the time we have serious players, you will begin to explore some of these places around Umunneochi and other areas.”

Otti’s administration appears committed to not only supporting the refinery project but also ensuring its timely progress. He stressed the importance of setting clear timelines and regular updates to avoid delays, pledging state support for any needs that may arise during the project’s execution.

Exploring the State’s Untapped Potential

The Governor’s vision extends beyond just the oil refinery. He noted the state’s wealth of untapped resources, suggesting that areas beyond Ukwa West also possess significant oil reserves. This exploration and subsequent development could transform Abia into a major player in the oil industry.

“We take our partnership very seriously, and I want to thank you for identifying us as one of the first states for this initiative,” Otti said. “If there is any support you need, do not hesitate to reach out to us. I would like to give you a timeline so that we won’t just be talking. I would like to be briefed every fortnight on how you are doing.”

Professor Joel Ogbonna, the Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, echoed the Governor’s optimism. He pointed out that the state harbors about 100 capped oil wells, yet to be exploited. This potential, if fully realized, could catapult Abia into the ranks of leading oil-producing regions globally.

“The opportunity will take the state to another level. If realized, Abia will be among the top oil players in the world,” Ogbonna stated.

PETAN’s Commitment to Abia State

Engr. Wole Ogunsanya, Chairman of PETAN, conveyed the association’s dedication to supporting Abia State in maximizing its oil sector potential. He highlighted PETAN’s capacity to facilitate the refinery project, emphasizing their readiness to deploy their equipment and expertise.

“We have engaged in discussions with the government on having a refinery in the state which would serve Abia and neighboring states. This is the first state where we would be executing this program/project,” Ogunsanya explained. “We own the equipment that would find the oil and bring it out of the ground, which would make the work easy for us.”

The proposed refinery project is set to bring substantial economic benefits to Abia State. It promises to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), create employment opportunities, and attract foreign exchange. The initiative aligns with the broader goal of leveraging local resources for significant economic development.

Ogunsanya emphasized that PETAN, an indigenous company providing oil and gas services, is well-equipped to collaborate with the state government. The association’s involvement is anticipated to bring technological expertise and operational efficiency, ensuring the project’s success.
