Nigeria’s Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has asked the relevant agency managing online portal of the government’s job initiative, N-Power, to reopen it on June 17 to allow more unemployed Nigerians to apply. This is part of the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP).

N-SIP is a federal government programme aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods of vulnerable groups such as the unemployed youths, women and children.

The government says the programme has so far empowered over 1.6 million Nigerians through its four components, namely; N-Power, National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer, and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.

Lagos State Redesigns Nigeria And Provides The Future Fiscal Model [Video]

0

In this videocast, I discuss how Lagos State is providing the new fiscal planning model in Nigeria through its efficiency in collecting internal revenue. The state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) was 169% of Federal Account allocation, meaning that the state generates more money from taxes, fees and others than what it receives from the federal government. Except 5 states of Ogun, Kwara, Edo, Delta and Rivers, Lagos had more IGR than 30 states. We do not have fiscal federalism in the constitution. But Lagos is showing the roadmap on how to get there before the National Assembly has a serious debate on it.

The Road Leads To Kenya: Why Nigeria Tech Firms Are Going East [Video]

0

In today’s videocast, I discuss why Nigeria tech firms are going to Kenya. Wakanow and Mall for Africa just opened Kenya services, joining others like Wild Fusion, Jumia and Andela  in the East African nation. For most of these companies, Nairobi is like the second state in Nigeria, after Lagos, owing to some promising indicators in that city. It does make sense that after Lagos, one has to focus on Nairobi because Port Harcourt and Abuja do not really get it and cannot compete in the league of Lagos and Nairobi.
