Alix Earle and Ashtin Earle Discover BRCA2 Gene Mutation After Mom’s Cancer Diagnosis.

Spoiler alert: This article reveals key details from Netflix’s Earle Meets World. The sisters were tested for the BRCA2 gene few months after Alix and Ashtin Earle's mother, Alisa Maniaci, received a breast cancer diagnosis.

The sisters were tested for the BRCA2 gene few months after Alix and Ashtin Earle's mother, Alisa Maniaci, received a breast cancer diagnosis.

"Of course, we wanna hope for the best," in a statement, 25-year-old Alix stated, "but you can't help but fear for the worst."

The three met with genetic counselor Pankti Doshi before hearing the results, and she gave them an explanation of how she would share the data with them.

"My whole thing is to just rip the Band-Aid and get the results out," Pankti started, then went on, "You both did test positive for the genetic change in BRCA2."

After learning the result, Alisa apologized to her girls because she thought she had inherited the gene.

"No, don't say sorry," they all started crying as Ashtin, 23, reassured their mother and Alix informed Alisa, "It's OK."

Alix sobbed and told Pankti, "I'm fine. I've just been having a bad week anyway. It is fine, I'm sorry."

She consoled her little sister as well.

"At least we're in it together, and at least we know," Alix stated to Ashtin. "And it's such a privilege to be able to know and to have each other's back."

Notwithstanding her anxieties, Alisa informed her daughters, "Nothing's happening to either of you, nor me. Listen, we're all gonna be strong. We're all gonna be fine. We all know that we can be on top of it now."

Additionally, the family wanted to share those unfiltered, intimate moments with viewers, as they stated at the Earle Meets World premiere on September 1.

In fact, as they were learning the results, "I didn't really think much about the cameras," Alix informed news sources, "because we were so focused on each other and just being there and supporting each other."

"It's a really powerful story and I'm happy that we captured it," she added. "It's unfortunate when things happen in life that aren't the best, especially with health, but we had cameras up for all of this. And that's sort of the whole show, we just kept everything going as things were naturally happening in our lives, and these few months happened to just be like a wild ride. But I'm really excited for it to be out there."

Netflix is currently offering Earle Meets World for streaming.
