Arthur Jones, a Super Bowl champion, has passed away at the age of 39.

A tragic loss has left the football community in mourning. Arthur Jones passed away on October 3. He was a defensive lineman with the Baltimore Ravens from 2010 to 2013 and helped the team win Super Bowl XLVII in 2012. His age was 39.

Syracuse University, where Jones played as a college student before to being picked by the Ravens, was the first to announce his death; no cause of death was provided.

“Arthur Jones was a tremendous player and even better person,” John Wildhack, director of athletics at Syracuse, stated in a statement. “We were fortunate that Arthur continued to support our football program after his playing career. He impacted many of our student-athletes, always with a smile and uplifting message.”

Jones played with the Indianapolis Colts from 2014 to 2016 after spending four seasons with the Ravens. After that, he lived in Washington for a season until declaring his NFL retirement in 2017.

Jones's two younger brothers also pursued careers in sports; therefore, he was not the only athlete in his family. Chandler Jones won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2014, and Jon Jones is a heavyweight champion in the UFC.

Playing defensive end at Christian Brothers Academy, Arthur Jones IV, his son, has also followed in his father's footsteps. According to local publication WIVT, he also received a scholarship offer earlier this year from his father's alma institution.

The Ravens were "terribly saddened" by the loss, according to general manager Eric DeCosta shortly after the NFL star's passing.

“Arthur's presence was a gift to everyone he encountered,” on October 3, DeCosta made this remark, which was posted on X previously Twitter. “His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others.”

The late football player was “kind, courteous and enthusiastic,” according to DeCosta, who also said that his “love for family, teammates and friends.”

“We send our deepest condolences to the Jones family,” he went on, “and all who loved Arthur.”
