Banking as a student in US and Nigeria
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on July 2, 2022, 9:55 AMPost: "My mind on the access bank business model: build banks in university towns. Catch the students. In 4 years they are graduates, soon they are working, guess which account they are still using after 16 years? I am guilty as charged! "
My Response: That is what Bank of America does with its College checking account. In Nigeria, most banks do so. UBA for example offers free zero balance accounts for students. Yet, I do not see a major differentiation since this relationship is transactional: even if the student has banked with you for 4 years, would you offer him/her N1 million to deposit for rent for that job? Bank of America does that and that is the difference; the more you stay with it, the better value you get. In Nigerian banking, I do not see that happening.
