Barker was also a passionate animal rights activist, who donated millions of dollars to various organizations and causes. He was instrumental in ending the use of fur and leather on The Price is Right, as well as promoting animal adoption and sterilization. He also funded the rescue and relocation of dozens of elephants, lions, bears and other animals from circuses and zoos to sanctuaries.
Barker received numerous awards and honors for his work, including 19 Daytime Emmy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and induction into the Television Hall of Fame. He was also honored by the United Nations for his humanitarian efforts.
Barker is survived by his son Robert, his daughter-in-law Melissa, and his grandson Brandon. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jo, who died in 1981 after 36 years of marriage.
