Cloud brings the profit in Google, LinkedIn News reports: "In another bright spot, Google's growing cloud business reported operating income of $191 million, the first time it has notched a profit, CNBC notes."

Digital advertising isn't dead yet, at least for Google. The tech giant's parent company, Alphabet, posted stronger-than-expected earnings Tuesday, thanks in part to a solid showing from its ad business amid an industrywide slowdown. Though ad revenue was still down — declining less than 1% to $54.6 billion year over year — it still beat forecasts, and the decline was less pronounced than last quarter's.  Alphabet also approved up to $70 billion in stock buybacks, on par with the buybacks it announced last year.
