Motherhood 101 is being taught by Jamie Lynn Spears. The Zoey 101 alum thought back on raising her 17-year-old daughter, Maddie Watson, as her high school graduation draws near.
"Welp…. the grad invites are sent, the cap and gown arrived, and the last regular day of school is here….," Jamie wrote a message for a picture of herself and the teenager on Instagram on April 24. "I guess the lovely state of denial that I forced myself to be in has to end, bc the reality of time is coming at me like a freight train."
And Jamie Lynn, who gave birth to Maddie in 2008 with her former partner Casey Aldridge, is amazed at how quickly her young daughter has matured.
"I know the saying 'the days are long, but the years are short' is one of the most cliche sayings, bc it's said so much," the 35-year-old penned, "but I now know that cliches are only said so much bc they continue to ring true in every lifetime throughout the test of time."
"Maybe, people only hate cliches, bc they are the undeniable, unavoidable truth hitting us right in the face," she added, "and if you're fortunate enough, kids growing up is one of those few guarantees in life."
The Steel Magnolias actress, who also has a 7-year-old daughter named Ivey with husband Jamie Watson, continued by referring to the "privilege" of seeing one's children mature progressively. "One of the most beautiful & fulfilling things we can experience as humans."
Even though being a mother can have its ups and downs, Jamie Lynn stated that she is "grateful" for each "moment" of the experience.
"It's bittersweet, bc you're so proud of everything they have accomplished this far," she clarified, "and so excited to watch everything that their future will bring, while also longing for them to stay your baby forever."
The mother of two sent a final message to her fans as she prepared to watch Maddie graduate from high school.
"I know I'm one of luckiest mama's in the world, so I'll stop my rambling now, until I completely lose it on graduation day," according to Jamie Lynn, who previously sent her daughter off to her senior prom. "I'll leave ya with another cliche, go love on your babies, and really REALLY try to be present, no matter what else is going on in your professional or personal life, bc you will NEVER regret spending time with your kids."
"Also, it's all about the little things, like today, I had a scoop of coffee ice cream for breakfast," she went on to say. "I'll probably have it for lunch too, bc tears & ice cream is an unbeatable duo."
