Joeboy exits Empawa, sets up new record label in partnership with Warner Music
Hey, music lovers! I have some exciting news for you today. Joeboy, the Nigerian singer and songwriter who rose to fame with his hit songs like "Baby" and "Beginning", has announced that he is leaving Empawa Africa, the talent incubator founded by Mr Eazi. But don't worry, he is not quitting music. In fact, he is taking his career to the next level by launching his own record label, called “Young Legend” record label, in partnership with Warner Music Group.
He also adjusted his profile names on social media to reflect the new label.
This move sees Joeboy exit Empawa after 5 successful years where he released 2 EPs (Love & Light and Body, Soul & Spirit), 2 albums (Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic and Body & Soul) and a plethora of hit singles & features amassing over 2 billion streams across major DSPs.

Under the new Young Legend label, Joeboy will act as the CEO while Deola Jaiyesimi will serve as the Head of label with the task of churning out the next set of Afrobeat's superstars on a global stage.
This is a huge move for Joeboy, who started his career in 2017 after winning a talent competition organized by Mr Eazi. He then joined Empawa Africa, a platform that provides funding, mentorship and exposure to emerging African artists. Under Empawa, Joeboy released his debut EP, Love and Light, in 2019, which featured the smash hit "Don't Call Me Back" with Mayorkun. He followed it up with his first album, Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic, in 2021, which topped charts across Africa and beyond.
Joeboy's partnership with Warner Music Group is also a big deal, as it gives him access to a global network of resources and opportunities. Warner Music Group is one of the largest music companies in the world, with a roster of artists that includes Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Coldplay and many more. Warner Music Group also has a strong presence in Africa.
Sharing a ritual-themed clip announcing the launch of his record label via X, Joeboy wrote: “Dawn of a new era. Young Legend is alive.”
