Kimora Lee Simmons is legally divorcing her spouse, Tim Leissner. Two days before he began a two-year prison sentence in February, Leissner, a former Goldman Sachs banker who admitted to stealing millions of dollars from the Malaysian government in 2018, signed documents to begin their divorce. According to the petition that news sources were able to access, the court filings were then submitted on April 20.

After 12 years of marriage, Leissner, who wed the Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane star in March 2014, cited "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of the split.

He asked the founder of Baby Phat for spousal maintenance and joint custody of his 11-year-old son Wolfe. Additionally, he requested that Lee Simmons' eligibility for alimony be terminated.

Media outlets have contacted Lee Simmons' representative for comment, but they have not received a response.

On February 4, Leissner signed the divorce documents. The 56-year-old turned himself in to a federal prison in Pennsylvania on February 6, according to his lawyer Henry Mazurek, who informed Bloomberg.

Based on jail records examined by news organizations, Leissner's release date is set for September 29, 2027.

Leissner apologized for his role in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scam during his sentencing last year. According to U.S. officials, $4.5 billion was embezzled from a state-owned investment fund intended to support economic growth in the Asian nation.

"First and foremost, I offer my sincere apology to the people of Malaysia," as per Reuters, he informed the court at the time. "I deeply regret my actions."

The 50-year-old Lee Simmons has not discussed Leissner's legal issues in public. In a December interview with news outlets, the designer—who also has a teenage boy with her ex-husband Djimon Hounsou and two adult children with her first husband Russell Simmons—alluded to her and Leissner's split by stating, "I've changed jobs, careers a few times, husbands, investments."

"I am a boy mom. I was a girl mom," she added. "It's life."
