Kurt Sutter Backs Sons of Anarchy Spinoff Legends Despite Not Being Involved.

Kurt Sutter, the original creator of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, is no longer with the program as it enters a new limited season. However, the showrunner knows why he isn't benefiting from the FX spinoff Legends, which was created without him by Jonathan Groff of Glee and Charlie Hunnam of Sons.

"I know the news about Charlie’s show hit today, and I’m beginning to get some queries about it," in August 19, Sutter shared a video in which he made a joke "hell-like ambience" thanks to filming in a sauna. "I just want to say my piece. I’m not involved with Legends at all—nor should I be."
Following the 2014 conclusion, why does the showrunner feel included in the new iteration of the club?
"It has nothing to do with the characters I created, or the mythology," the 66-year-old clarified. "It’s really about the show and the legacy of the show, and, quite frankly, there are thousands of people who are responsible for that legacy."
In fact, Sutter noted that the project is a meta-thriller in which the original cast of Sons of Anarchy, including his wife Katey Sagal, would play fictionalized versions of themselves at a fan convention. The story will then devolve into a string of regrettable incidents that are just as hazardous as what previously befell their TV personalities.
"I just want folks to know that Charlie came to me when he was in the process of pitching this to the network to ask for my blessing," Sutter added, "knowing that the IP would probably not be able to be invoked for various reasons of legalese stuff."
As a result, there is no animosity between Sutter and the people behind the sequel, such as FX Networks chief John Landgraf, or his old set colleague, who brought Groff into the family as an executive producer.
"I gave Charlie my full blessing. I wish nothing but the best for him in this project," the author revealed. "My wife is in the project. I have nothing but love for John Landgraf and the folks at FX who have been so good to me, so generous. So, it has my full-blown 'Watch this motherf--ker.'"
Indeed, Sutter revealed insider information on why ardent fans should be thrilled about the new path Hunnam has taken the narrative.
"I’ve taken a peek at the script that was perhaps just lying on my wife’s knitting table, and it’s really so well done," he stated. "I love Charlie to death, and I think [fans] will have mad love for this project as well."
The revelation that several of the original SAMCRO cast members, including Kim Coates and Ron Perlman, will be returning for the next season after seven seasons only serves to bolster Sutter's positive evaluation.
