Lizzo Opens Up About Finding Peace Amid Harassment Lawsuit Fallout.

Lizzo refuses to let her reality to harm her. Lizzo discussed what she's learned about herself and how to deal with the public's perspective three years following the time that the "About Damn Time" singer was the target of two harassment and discrimination lawsuits, the second of which was totally dismissed last month.

“I had to make peace with the fact that there's a version of Lizzo that exists now that the world controls,” in an interview that aired on Sunday Today's October 4 program, Lizzo informed Willie Geist. “The world controls the narrative, and I don't.”

As she stressed, “But what I can control is who I really am.”

The Grammy winner stated that she doesn't feel the urge to "fight back" against falsehoods as a result.

“I’m not a fighter,” she remarked. “I'm a lover.”

However, Lizzo (real name Melissa Jefferson) claims that she has discovered that the music business is a "headline game."

“How many headlines can I have out there about the things that I'm doing that I'm proud of,” she revealed, “and that I actually did?”

The "Truth Hurts" singer feels that despite going through some challenging times, “everything that happens to you, good or bad, is an opportunity for growth.”

“It's an opportunity for self-reflection and to learn about yourself,” she clarified, “and to, even if you don't like parts of yourself, deal with it and work on it. And then the person you become at the end of that is someone you couldn't even imagine, and you fall in love with them.”

In August 2023, former backup dancers Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis and Noelle Rodriguez filed a lawsuit against Lizzo. The complaint, obtained by media outlets at the time, accused her of sexual harassment, weight-shaming and disability discrimination, and described their workplace as "hostile" and "abusive."

The "Good as Hell" singer later refuted the accusations, calling them "outrageous" and "false."

Although the case remains ongoing, the fat-shaming allegations were dropped in December 2025, according to the BBC.

Asha Daniels, Lizzo's former wardrobe assistant, accused the "Rumors" singer and her production business of harassment and discrimination in the second complaint, which was filed in September 2023.

Following a Los Angeles judge’s dismissal of the complaint last month, Lizzo said she was “relieved” by the outcome.

“I prayed for the truth to come out, and thanks to my incredible lawyers, the truth has prevailed,” in a September 1st Instagram Reel, she penned. “The truth matters more to me than anything, and I told y’all I will not settle and will continue to fight until every vicious claim that has been made against me and my businesses.”
