Mark Ruffalo’s Son Keen Reveals His Dad’s Reaction to His Acting Career.

Although Mark Ruffalo is eager for his son Keen to join the family business, he cautioned him that being in the spotlight isn't always easy. Despite the Sterling Point actor's breakthrough performance in the Prime Video series, he disclosed how the Avengers star responded to his decision to pursue acting after recently showing no interest.

“He was definitely supportive, but he’s like, ‘You sure you wanna do this?’” Keen recounted in an August 7 interview with Today. “He’s like, ‘[There’s] definitely less criticism in other [careers].’”

The 25-year-old, the eldest of Mark and wife Sunrise Coigney's three children, did not intend to pursue acting like his parents, despite making a few brief cameos in his father's films as a child, such as Begin Again (2013) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017). But after the epidemic struck, everything was different.

“It got to that point where everyone’s really burning out [from] being inside,” Keen spoke with Craig Melvin, Dylan Dreyer, and Al Roker on Today. “I started my freshman year of college, just before Covid happened, and I was going for fashion design originally. I dropped out not long after we ended up separating for Covid.”

The Nimrods star recognized he "needed a change" after going via "Covid depression."

“I was lost at the time,” he acknowledged it. “I saw that acting made my dad so happy, and I was like, ‘Listen, I need to try something new.’”

Keen faced numerous obstacles before landing his first significant role as Connor Jacobson, the easygoing twin brother of Ella Rubin's Annie in Sterling Point. He will next be featured in the road comedy Nimrods.

“I wasn’t auditioning at the start, obviously. My dad didn’t want to hand me or my siblings anything because it’s just not how he was raised,” he revealed in an August 4 interview with Cultured. “So, I went to a couple of the major schools and studied different acting techniques. I’m a huge nerd when it comes to acting technique. That’s my bread and butter. I could go on for hours about it.”

What about a significant turning point? Mark, who is also the father of Odette, 18, and Bella, 21, with Sunrise, witnessed his kid in action.

“[He] came and saw one of my plays one day, and he’s like, ‘All right, I think you’re ready to do this,’ after I’d studied for a year or two,’” Keen remembered. “Then, it took me another three years of still taking classes and auditions to finally land Nimrods and Sterling Point. I’d probably done at that point upwards of 100 auditions.”
