"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson, who went home to rest last night," the Jackson family posted on Instagram on October 6. "To everyone who ever sang along, danced, or felt something when Freddie took the stage: thank you. You were family to him, and he carried your love with him always."
Additionally, Jackson's family stressed that the Grammy nominee had more than simply his silky voice.
"He was a kind, generous soul who loved his fans, his family, his friends, and his music with everything he had," the statement went on. "For decades he gave us the songs that became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most treasured memories. That gift will live on forever."
His family came to the conclusion, "Rest in peace, Freddie. Your legacy and your voice will live on forever."
Jackson had a health fight before to his death after receiving a renal illness diagnosis.
"This journey has been challenging, but I am not facing it alone," in September 2024, he posted on Instagram. "My close friends, my manager and music family, and all of you are here with me, keeping me going."
However, he gave several performances during the previous two years, indicating that he was recovering.
As a prominent voice in the R&B industry, Jackson gained notoriety in the 1980s with songs like "Have You Ever Loved Somebody" and "Jam Tonight." He previously acknowledged that, despite leaving his influence on the music industry, he wasn't the biggest lover of being called iconic.
