"I was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year," in a July 21 Cadillac Chronicles TV episode, Nivea informed Brian Freeman, claiming, "I am so grateful to God. I’ve been going through treatment, and everything is going great so far. And I expect it to continue."
However, Nivea was first caught off guard when she was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a rare form of blood marrow cancer that advances slowly and frequently affects older persons, according to the Mayo Clinic.
"As incredibly surprised as I was to have the diagnosis confirmed after [two] (because the [first] one wasn’t successful), bone marrow biopsy procedures, I was profoundly thankful that it wasn’t Blast [blastoma]," in a statement released on July 23, Nivea informed People, "which would have meant chemotherapy as part of the treatment.”
Despite the fact that the 44-year-old was informed by doctors that the illness was neither inherited nor caused by lifestyle choices—a discovery she described as "a relief yet still a bit puzzling"—Nivea has persisted in emphasizing thankfulness during this trying time.
"It’s so cliché to say you don’t know the time nor the hour, but it’s true," Cadillac Chronicles TV featured Nivea. "It just helped me put a lot of things in perspective, and I live in gratitude religiously."
The "Laundromat" singer is finally making time to follow her longtime goals because of this.

"I'm doing things I want to do. I'm definitely back into my music," Nivea remarked. "I'm going to school for audio engineering. I've always wanted to learn how to engineer and mixing engineering in particular."
Additionally, the "Complicated" musician is "doing all the things" outside of music. He has a son, Neal Carter, 16, with ex-Lil Wayne, and a daughter, Navy Nash, 21, and twins, London Nash and Christian Nash, 20, with ex-The-Dream. "Loving on my children and just being grateful and taking every opportunity that comes my way," she stated.
