My Response: You like fighting yourself here. Your confusion is that you think one way. If you look at it from both ways, you can liberate yourself from the world, or from the world to self. Either way, you are "liberating" the mind from dogmas, norms, etc which can be endogenous or exogenous and also multi-longitudinal.

Happy you wrote "self education separates from the global system of education that liberates the mind"- and with that you focused on one way (that could be geopolitical where you become aware of things).
But there is another part where you get yourself from self and infuse yourself into the world (think of better medical practices learnt from other doctors from around the world, think of not killing twins in most parts of Africa as people understood science, … that is education and liberating the mind even though it was not formalized in your village).
