Sabrina Carpenter Providesitty Response to Speculated Olivia Rodrigo Controversy.

Sabrina Carpenter recently reflected on the rumored drama involving Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, which many believe inspired Olivia’s hit song Driver's License. While she has largely avoided addressing the speculation directly, she did make a subtle nod to her signature blonde hair in her song Skin, with lyrics that suggest, “Maybe blonde was the only rhyme.”

In a recent June 12 interview with Rolling Stone, Sabrina shared that she never intentionally referenced the 2021 love triangle but emphasized that the situation never stopped her from doing what she loves. She described that period of her life as a time of personal growth, saying, “What that era taught me was to just trust myself, and trust that everything is going to work out the way it’s supposed to.”

“I didn’t really intentionally do that,” Sabrina,26, stated in an interview published by Rolling on June 12. “All I knew was that it wasn’t going to stop me from doing what I loved, ever. That’s kind of how I’ve always felt. Sometimes, it’s about how you are able to be resilient.”

Nevertheless, she views that time as a genuine time of personal development.

“What that era taught me was to just trust myself, and trust that everything is going to work out the way it’s supposed to, and trust that relationships are put into your life for a reason,” which she included. “You might not see that in the moment, but you see it later.”

She also noted that she has fully moved past the drama, even embracing her blonde identity, joking that brunettes “didn’t look good” on her. As further proof that she and Olivia have let bygones be bygones, the two reunited at the 2025 Grammys, sharing a friendly embrace.

“I don’t think about it, ever,” she underlined, adding, “I’ve tried being brunette, and it didn’t look good on me, so this is what it is.”

Olivia wanted "Driver's License" to speak by itself; thus, she refrained from mentioning specific persons when discussing the song.

"I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song,” Billboard was informed by Olivia in January 2021. “It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.”

Sounds like both artists have left any past tensions behind! What do you think about Sabrina’s approach to addressing the speculation?

Even though Olivia and Sabrina have stated that their animosity is over, other celebrities are also involved in controversy.
