Simone Biles is discussing a near-death experience. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist revealed that she is recuperating from a near-fatal medical situation.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” on June 6, she posted a message on Instagram Stories over a picture of herself sporting three hospital wristbands. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”
The fact that the athlete's spouse, Jonathan Owens, was out of town at the time of the occurrence made her experience much more terrifying.
“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life,” she clarified, “especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”
“I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers,” she continued. “Loooovveeee y’all.”
The 29-year-old also published a photo of herself lounging in bed with her two dogs and the ornate flower arrangements she received during her health emergency. Simone included a snapshot of her increased heart rate (126 bpm) in the comfortable bedroom photo.
However, this would not be Simone's first medical emergency. The gymnast had already discussed the physical effects of competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
“I went back to the village, took the elevator and my body literally collapsed,” in an April 2025 interview, Simone informed L'Equipe, the French sports publication of the Associated Press. “I was sick for 10 days.”
Simone continued to experience physical strain over a year after winning three gold and one silver medal in the games.
“The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends,” she remembered. “I had aches and pains for three days.”
Even though Simone, who has won 11 Olympic gold, hasn't stated if she plans to compete in the 2028 games, she is currently focused on leading a comfortable life.
“I’m really trying to enjoy life, spend time with my husband [and] go support him at his games, and live my life as a woman,” she clarified stating. “I’ve accomplished so much in my sport.”
“For me to come back,” she went on to say, “it would really have to excite me.”
