Tom Holland Dreads Playing Fred Astaire in Upcoming Biopic.
Tom Holland is being candid on his new position. The Spider-Man: Brand New Day actor has finally started the rehearsal process more than four years after it was revealed that he would play Fred Astaire in a biopic. He shares why he is a little nervous about playing the renowned dancer.
"For me, what I love about my job is the challenges," Holland revealed during a July 20 interview with Good Morning America. "We have Fred Astaire next, which is what we’re planning on doing. And as soon as I finish with these tours, I’m diving back into the dance studio."
Even though the 30-year-old, who has been on consecutive press tours for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey with wife Zendaya, has a background in dance, he felt a little off-beat during the first few dance sessions for the Astaire biopic.

"It both filled me with excitement and absolute dread," Holland stated to George Stephanopoulos of GMA, "because I’ve got so much work to do to try and do Fred proud."
The Avengers: Infinity War star stressed that he is prepared to work hard in order to achieve this.
As he clarified, "I have a desire to use no doubles, to do all of the dancing, to shoot those dances in one shot, how he would have done it."
Holland revealed the Astaire biopic himself, which will be directed by Paul King and written by Steven Levenson for Sony Pictures.
In fact, he disclosed the thrilling news in 2021 that he would be taking up the dance duties of the late legend, who was well-known for his talents as an actor and choreographer in Hollywood movies including Top Hat, Funny Face, and The Towering Inferno.
"I am playing Fred Astaire," the Associated Press was informed. "The script came in a week ago. I haven’t read it yet. They haven’t given it to me."
Additionally, Holland will collaborate on the future movie with a local.
Following all, the project is being produced by Sony executive Amy Pascal, who is in charge of the Spider-Man franchise. Actually, it was Pascal who told him what was happening when he was bathing.
"She FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath. And we had a lovely FaceTime," he reminded AP, then reiterated, "but I will be playing Fred Astaire."
