Snoop Dogg has been announced as the first coach for the 28th season of The Voice scheduled to premiere on NBC this fall.

That’s right! Snoop Dogg is making a comeback as a coach for The Voice Season 28. He first joined the show in Season 26, bringing his signature humor and musical expertise to the red chair. After stepping away for Season 27, he’s now reclaiming his spot for the upcoming season.

His return is part of a larger deal with NBCUniversal, where his production company, Death Row Pictures, has signed a multi-year agreement. Snoop has expressed his excitement about mentoring new artists and showcasing his deep understanding of music.

Are you excited to see him back on The Voice? Who do you think will join him on the coaching panel?

The “Gin and Juice” rapper is set to return as a coach for the 28th season of the NBC singing competition series, the network announced April 23.

His production company, Death Row Pictures, has signed a multi-year deal with NBCUniversal, expanding into film, television, sports entertainment, and streaming. This partnership includes a biopic about Snoop’s life, written by Joe Robert Cole and produced by Snoop himself.

While the panel currently consists of Adam Levine, John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé, Snoop’s fellow coaches for the upcoming cycle have yet to be announced.

Snoop, 53, effortlessly charmed audiences with his blend of hilarity and heartfelt moments when he joined the series in 2024, but he previously admitted he didn’t see himself sitting in the iconic red chair for long.

“I had a great time on The Voice, I ain’t gonna front,” he said at a conference in September, according to OK Magazine. “But when I did the contract, I thought, ‘I'm gonna do this for one year and get up outta here.’”

However, Snoop seemingly warmed up to the idea of sticking around past season 26 after meeting his fellow coaches.

“Once I got to the set,” he continued, “I fell in love with Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani and, unbelievably, me and Michael Bublé are like lost brothers.”

As for what sparked his interest in taking on the role in the first place, Snoop said he wanted a way to help emerging musicians while also showcasing his own expertise.

“This is a great opportunity for me to show that I really understand music and to be a real coach,” he explained during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May, “and to really give direction to some of these artists that could be today's next big thing.”

Snoop Dogg has always been a champion of musical diversity. His career has spanned hip-hop, reggae (as "Snoop Lion"), gospel, and even collaborations with country artists like Willie Nelson. On The Voice, he’s excited to bring his wide-ranging appreciation for different genres to the contestants helping them refine their artistry no matter their style.

It’s a refreshing approach, and it makes him one of the most unpredictable and engaging coaches. Who knows? We might even see him working with an opera singer or a metal band this season!

Are there any artists or genres you’d love to see him mentor?

“That's why I feel like people attract to me, because I'm not one-sided,” Snoop continued. “I'm not just for you. I'm for everybody. I'm the people's champ.”
