In her battle with illness, Teddi Mellencamp is celebrating a heartbreaking breakthrough. At the first anniversary of receiving her diagnosis, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alumna sent a heartfelt statement, recalling her initial bewilderment about her symptoms.
“A year ago, today I went into the ER thinking I had migraines,” on February 9, she posted something on Instagram. “And within 24 hours was having surgery on the plum-sized stage 4 tumors on my brain.”
The 44-year-old, who has children with her divorced spouse Edwin Arroyave, Slate, 13, Cruz, 11, and Dove, 5, experienced conflicting emotions as a result of the milestone, but she made a point of focusing on her blessings.
“I have a lot of anxiety surrounding today but also a lot of gratitude,” she added. “Gratitude for the doctors and nurses who took care of me, gratitude for my family and friends for supporting me, and gratitude for all the love that you have poured into me.”
Teddi, whose doctors had told her that she had a 50/50 chance of surviving, gave her followers a crucial warning at the end of the post to never take their health for a ride.
“Trust your instincts,” she came to a conclusion... “Get checked.”
Among the pals who offered support to the reality star was Kyle Richards, her former co-star on RHOBH, who said she "can't believe it's been a year" since Teddi's diagnosis.
“You’re so strong Ted. Even the days you feel like you aren’t,” Kyle left a remark on the article. “You’re an inspiration to SO many. Love you!”
Teddi has received a number of encouraging health updates in the past year, despite the emotional and physical challenges she has experienced, including having brain surgery in February to remove her tumors. She said in October that there was "no detectable cancer" in her body, a statement she reiterated recently.
In addition, Teddi appeared as Calla Lily on the current 14th season of The Masked Singer, which "meant a lot" to her throughout her health struggle.
“I can get emotional just talking about it,” following revealing her identity, Teddi told media outlets, “but being able to go there and do that and make it through and know that I can do that even in the position that I was then—it's really good.”
