The Future of Abundance

My unbounded optimism in the future is based primarily on one factor: man has the capacity to rewire the ordinances it invented to set new equilibrium points for survival. Yes, no matter the effervescence and pockets of setbacks, the world is getting better and the future is one of abundance. Nigeria’s per capita income in 1966 was $124; in 2014, it hit all-time of $3,222 before dropping to $2,000. Bill Gates has picked the problems of health, Jeff Bezos is going after climate change. The fact is this: just as the promises of politicians are the taxes of the citizens and firms, the challenges of today are frictions to be fixed by the future. Do not discard the spirit of the human species.

The Bezos Earth Fund is huge.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the world's wealthiest person, said Monday he was committing $10 billion to combat climate change through a global initiative.

Bezos announced the initiative, called the Bezos Earth Fund, in a post Monday afternoon on Instagram. The fund will support scientists, activists, nongovernmental organizations and "any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world," he said.

Bezos said he expected to begin issuing grants this summer.
