The Mask Director Chuck Russell Passes Away at 74.
According to his wife Ania Zeyne, the director, who was well-known for his roles in The Mask, The Blob, and Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, passed away on July 22 at the age of 74. "He was such a wonderful guy," on July 24, the actress spoke with The Hollywood Reporter. "He meant everything to me."
The cause of death has not yet been revealed.
As per a report to the publication, Zeyne discovered Russell (born Charles Raymond Russell) unconscious at his San Diego residence. As stated by TMZ, firefighters arrived at Russell's home on July 23 in response to a medical emergency involving an unresponsive guy, but they were unable to bring him back to consciousness.

Millions of people were impacted by the filmmaker's critically praised work throughout his illustrious career. Along with directing the 1994 film The Mask, which starred Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, Russell oversaw the innovative visual effects produced by George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic firm, which won the crew an Oscar.
Also, he said that he had "quite a battle with the studio" about casting Diaz, whom he supported notwithstanding her inexperience as an actress. "The chemistry was so strong between her and Jim in the readings, I just had to fight for Cameron in that role," he recalled in a 2002 interview with Cryptic Rock.
Through the years, Russell has directed a number of other well-known actors, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1996's Eraser, Kim Basinger in 2000's Bless This Child, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in his first major role as the Scorpion King in 2002, and John Travolta in 2016's I Am Wrath and 2022's Paradise City.
Russell was also a gifted screenwriter, best known for writing Dennis Quaid's Dreamscape in 1984.
Russell's children from his prior marriage to ex-Patti Rao, Logan, Riley, and Carlyn, survive him together with his wife of 19 years.
