The ongoing labor shortage has forced many employers to forgo college diploma requirements, but Quartz reports many non-graduates still feel like they're hitting what inclusivity nonprofit Opportunity@Work calls "the paper ceiling." Skills-based advocacy groups note even though degree requirements have softened, many employers have actually been adding work experience and other education requirements faster than they are subtracting them, based on a 2022 tech hiring survey. To unlock fair opportunity, removing degree requirements is a good first step, but an Opportunity@Work executive says employers ultimately "have to think about their recruitment strategies in a different way."
