Vince Gilligan has won his first individual Emmy for writing, taking home Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for Apple TV’s Pluribus at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on September 14, 2026.

Gilligan was recognized for writing the Pluribus episode “We Is Us,” adding another major achievement to his celebrated television career. The Television Academy confirmed the win, noting that his previous Emmy victories came as a producer on Breaking Bad.

During his acceptance speech, Gilligan used the moment to reflect on the divided state of the world. Speaking about the premise of Pluribus, a series built around a world where people get along, he suggested that such a reality may not be as unrealistic as it seems.

Gilligan pointed to the current world and called for people to find common ground, emphasizing that while people may never agree on everything, they can still show respect and kindness toward one another.

The win marks another milestone for Gilligan, who is best known as the creator of Breaking Bad and the creator and executive producer of Pluribus. He also previously worked with Rhea Seehorn on Better Call Saul, a series that received numerous Emmy nominations but did not win during its run.
