Atiku Picks PDP Nomination Form for 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria

1

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has picked PDP presidential nomination form for the 2023 election. The amount is hefty, N40 million, making sure that teachers like us will stay out! With Atiku in, the equation changes in the nation. People, it is all permanent interest, no permanent enemy or friend!

Now, the most important phase: the zoning arrangement. If APC zones to South and PDP goes North, expect the balance to flip. Why? Southwest and Southeast politicians seem not aligned. The SE politicians have maintained that fairness demands that if APC zones the president to the South (they have), that SW politicians should leave it for them. Of course, Senator Bola Tinubu is already in, which means that arrangement is not working.

Atiku’s chance of being the next President brightens  if PDP zones it to the North. APC’s biggest risk is a SW ticket; the North will move PDP, making a point that if the North agrees to zone the ticket to South, it expects the SW to return the love for SE, if fairness and equity should rule. But where SW refuses, they see no reason for allowing power to move South.

I have expected PDP to zone the ticket to the South. But with Atiku going ahead, surprises can happen. Why? Who can write the big cheques for a national campaign?

Yes, the Igbo Nation said it loud and clear: “anaghi eji anya egbu agu” [you do not kill a leopard by merely looking at it]. If you want the Presidency, you need to battle for it because justice, fairness, and equity rarely work in Nigeria.

I wish we do not need zoning to select a president. But why not when we “quota” everything? And since that is part of our system, modify the Constitution and allow the damn office to rotate across zones!

The Police is now your friend!

Nigeria police continues to struggle to maintain peace

In a critical effort of the police service commission and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to thoroughly get rid of the black sheep amongst the Nigerian police force who has been dragging the good name of the law enforcement agency to disrepute and to adequately revitalize the cliche “police is your friend”, the Nigeria police official spokesperson has again issued a public service statement advising citizens of Nigeria what and what a policeman have right and power to demand from a motorist when they are being stopped and what a policeman has no jurisdiction whatsoever or right to demand from a motorist when he’s being stopped.

In his Twitter handle, Mr. Monye stated that on no account should a policeman should demand the customs papers of a motorist. Except the police operatives are on joint operation with other relevant law enforcement agents who have the jurisdiction to conduct search and verifications of custom papers, but not just on mere routine checks.

The senior police officer also stated categorically that in line with the directive of the IG of Police, the police force have suspended the issuance of tinted glass permit, so a police officer is not expected to disturb or harass a driver of a vehicle for a tinted glass permit if the car is tinted.

For the reason that time is money, the police spokesperson also emphasized that police officers are expected to be snappy in dealing with motorists in whatever operation they are on and it will amount to an intolerable offense for the police officers to delay any road user and any police officer reported will be severely dealt with.

Finally, the police spokesperson stated that the only documents a police officer are to demand from a driver if need be are;

  1. vehicle licence,
  2. certificate of insurance and
  3. drivers license”.

Anything outside this is beyond the jurisdiction of a police officer

Citizens are expected to discharge their civic responsibilities and report any police officer found harassing them or any other person or causing unnecessary delays or any police officer stepping out of his jurisdiction to ask for what he has no right to demand from a motorist.

Citizens should call any of these lines to report any police officer that is found displaying foul play: 0805 700 0002, 0805 700 0001

Russia Promises To Ensure Safety Of Nigerian Citizens

Amid the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war that saw Russia forcefully invade Ukraine, ravaging some of its cities which have caused a lot of people to flee the country, seeking refuge in neighboring countries. Russia has however disclosed that it will ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians in its country. This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the embassy of Nigeria in Moscow, with Russia on the sideline of the meeting between officials of the country.

In a statement issued by a special representative of the Russian Federation, it was stated that the country has put in place logistics arrangements to assist in the evacuation of Nigerian students that were stuck in Ukraine. They ensured that they will do everything possible to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens. The Russian Federation disclosed that Nigerian students in Ukraine should not feel dismayed as regards their education, as they are also willing to offer admissions to those who are willing to continue their education in Russia.

Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Nigeria to Russia, Prof. Abdullahi Shebu, commended the government of Russia for its concern and assistance towards the plight of Nigerians. The ambassador requested the Russian authorities to provide the necessary conducive environment for the welfare and well-being of Nigerians and also to strengthen Nigeria-Russian bilateral relations in all sectors. Despite the backlash Russia has been receiving for forcefully invading Ukraine, it is still worthy to note that they have not lost touch with humanity.

They seem to be considerate to Ukrainian citizens and citizens of other countries, especially the ones that they share great relationships with. When the war began, the Nigerian government was perturbed by the recent development which prompted them to invite Russian ambassadors to the country to express their worries over their invasion of Ukraine. Russian delegates had to douse the already rising tension by ensuring the Nigerian government that only military installations would be targeted in Ukraine as they would do nothing to harm Nigerians present there.

Russia and Nigeria have been known to share a special relationship, diplomatic relations between both countries can be traced back to 25th November 1960, during the Nigerian civil war when Russia provided the Nigerian government with political-military assistance. Ever since their relationship has continued to wax strong which is one of the reasons why Russia is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of Nigerians in Ukraine and also going out of its way to offer the students admission in their country.

Russia has always considered Nigeria as an important country and a strategic partner in Africa and will do anything to continue to strengthen its bilateral relations.

Although there are claims that the invasion of Russia of Ukraine has seen so many civilians lose their lives. According to human rights watch, they stated that if Russia is indeed found to be intentionally targeting civilian areas without a military purpose, that would amount to a war crime as investigations are still ongoing. On the other hand When a reporter asked President Joe Biden if Russia was deliberately targeting civilians, he responded, “they are.” He responded to a follow-up question asking if Russia’s actions constituted war crimes saying, “it’s too early to say.”

Tekedia Institute Receives Scholarships for FUTA Students

Good People, join me to thank Engr Dele Olajiga. M.Eng,(MNIAE),(Ph.D Scholar) for providing FULL scholarships to 20 undergraduate students of Federal University of Technology, Akure. Since ASUU extended its strike in Nigeria, hundreds of students have joined Tekedia CollegeBoost, a mini-MBA for students, and most are enrolled via scholarships funded by our fellow citizens.

We thank leaders like Engr Dele and others for giving our young people the opportunity to be academically engaged during the ASUU strike.

Tekedia Institute has structures in most universities and polytechnics in Nigeria. Our program manager, Eyitayo Adeleke, mMBA, knows the SUG presidents. Once a scholarship is available for a school, he works with the SUG leadership for the selection. This makes it very fast with no need of going through formal school bureaucracies. So, if you want to sponsor, reach out to him.
