Do You Want To Help Make The Internet Useful Again? – Free Apps To Remember Things

0

We like the way they started their hiring pitch: Do you want to be part of making the internet useful again? SpringPad is a new idea in a sea of ideas we see on the web these days. It is simply a better way to remember things with the phone. Yes, an app that helps you remember things.

Whether on your computer or from your phone, Springpad is a free app that helps you remember stuff today so you can make better decisions tomorrow. We automatically organize and enhance what you’ve saved to help you be more productive.

We’re not just a digital filing cabinet to help you save and organize stuff; we also put your information to work for you even when you’re not around. We’re always on the lookout to save you time and money with essential updates customized for your interests and available when you need them. We’ll alert you to price drops, product availability, deals of the day, news, useful links and other relevant offers for the things that matter to you. It’s like having your own personal assistant.

This is how the stuff works:

Springpad gives you a place to quickly and easily save anything you want to remember. Take a note, create a task, scan a product barcode and look up the book your friend mentioned. The best part is that no matter where you are, Springpad is there with you to make sure you don’t forget something worth remembering. Just think it and Spring it, and it’ll be there for you when you need it.

Springpad is the product of Spring Partners, a team inspired by the opportunity to harness the power of the Internet, data portability, and the rapidly increasing ubiquity of mobile access – all to help simplify people’s lives. The company is located in Boston and venture backed.

Goodbye MapNTL.com – Welcome LagosLocation. Now You Can Find That Location in Lagos Easily.

5

We ran a post few weeks ago and asked for MapNTL. The team responded yesterday in a well and highly detailed feedback. Thank you guys. We begin by quoting the CEO of the parent company of the MapNTL and its new evolution, LagosLocation.com. Read  Ireti Ajala , CEO of Spatial Technologies Ltd:

“We have thoughtfully developed LagosLocation.com to be more helpful, intuitive and engaging especially where the entire experience is within view and contextually relevance throughout. We remain committed to the core premise of providing accurate maps and directions to the people of Lagos every day”

MapNTL.com -Nigeria’s first home-grown online interactive map and location-based service portal that was lunched in the harmattan of 2007 has now been retired. MapNTL.com was developed on the simple idea of helping people find streets and business locations especially across Lagos in addition to getting directions to their destinations in a consistent way.

However in 2009,  Spatial Technologies Ltd (the owner of MapNTL.com ) took a decision to redesign the portal and incorporate all the useful and positive feedback they have received from their  numerous users. However the team discovered that the old platform and mapserver used to develop MapNTL.com could not support these new innovations coupled with some issues they had with the domain name. We were therefore faced with the inevitable –develop a new portal complete with new branding and identity. This was how the idea leading up to LagosLocation was conceived.

LagosLocation is Hotel price comparison website for Lagos aggregating over 600 hotel rooms across Lagos into one single portal to give you the benefit of price comparison.
Why call or make physical visits to several hotels in Lagos one by one when you can compare prices from top hotels in Lagos in one click?

LagosLocation resonates with our core value of helping people find places in Lagos in an efficient and consistent manner. With this new site, they are putting the LOCATION back in Lagos, whether it is a trip down the street of Shipeolu in Shomolu or a search for the best restaurant or bank in town.

Some of the improvements in LagosLocation.com include:
1. LagosLocation.com unlike MapNTL.com now has the capability to zoom IN/OUT of the map via your mouse scroll!

2. LagosLocation now has integrated pictures expected to enhance user experience. This helps users to marry contextual product pictures with the location

3. Another great feature of LagosLocation.com is the ease of panning or moving the map around. Simply left click your mouse and drag the map freehand in any direction you want.

What you get in the new LagosLocation portal
1.Lagos Street finder

2. A map-based hotel search and price comparison portal for Lagos aggregating over 600 hotel rooms across Lagos into one single portal to give you the benefit of price comparison.
Why call or make physical visits to several hotels in Lagos one by one when you can compare prices from top hotels in Lagos in one click?

3. Business location search portal. Over 20,000 businesses across Lagos can be found either by name or by suburb.

4. Outdoor advertising billboard location finder

One thing that remains here is a mobile interface. That we think is where our parent company can forge a partnership with this team.

Mobile Payment Implementation – Seven Strategies for Success in Nigeria

2

As Nigeria begins to move in the space of m-payment, there are many structures that must be put in place. The nation must have a plan and a cohesive system that will prevent fraud and build trust in the minds of the users of the products.

But for developers and organizations that will help implement and structure these systems, there are many challenges and opportunities. It is about SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity and threat). The following are things that any financial instruction or m-payment player must examine as they design and deploy their products.

  • Build a team – first you must have the people. And the right ones.
  • Implement quality core systems –as you build your technology, you have to build the accounting and other key core systems.
  • Understand the legacy limitations – or opportunities? How will you do better than your competitor. What are the drivers in this industry? Where is the volume and what drives that?
  • System design – if you go cloud computing, how will you survive if the cloud network has a problem. What is your fall back strategy? What is your sustainability plan. You need to have that because now, it is all about service availability to the customers.
  • Compliance and governance – CBN is watching and you need to ensure compliance and follow all regulations. What is your IT structure for that?
  • Customer service – that is the king of business. How good are you and what are your plans?
  • Lean and gaining operational efficiencies – Without managing cost, you cannot control profit. You need to be efficient and drive the business with focus.

Apple And Samsung Battle On Copyright Suit – It is Now Tit for Tat.

0

The legal battle between Apple and Samsung is heating up. Apple is complaining of harassment in Samsung’s latest bid to get an early look at Apple’s next iPhone. The issue stems from a suit filed by Apple in April in the U.S. District Court of Northern California accusing Samsung of copying its designs.

The judge in that case ordered Samsung to show Apple prototypes of its unreleased smartphones and tablets. The lawsuit shows side-by-side comparisons of the Apple iPhone 3GS model, released in June 2009, and the Galaxy S i9000 model, released in March 2010.

This latest move by Samsung seems a bit of a tit-for-tat maneuver and a questionable move at that, given that Samsung is one of Apple’s biggest suppliers.

Tekedia pities Samsung as they will lose their supply contract with Apple. They need to manage this problem and avoid the temptation of fighting the big Apple in this case. Let them settle because Apple could cut them off.

Global Semiconductor Market To Hit $315 Billion in 2011 – A 5.1% Annual Growth

0

The global semiconductor market will hit  $315 billion in 2011, which will make it an increase of 5.1 percent on 2010, according to Gartner, a market research firm.

The market research firm thinks that smartphone and tablets will lead the chip supply while many other sectors will lag. Together smartphone and tablets will control more than 64% of chip growth from 2011 to 2013. They also stated that Japan disaster will affect the total chip supply and growth in 2011.

“The disaster in Japan clearly had an impact on the semiconductor market, and supply chain behavior, but it is less than initially feared,” said Peter Middleton, principal research analyst at Gartner. “In response, in the last two weeks of March, vendors stepped up efforts to secure supply in the face of uncertainty and potential shortfalls — leading to some double ordering which continued into the second quarter. We think vendors were cautious with their second quarter guidance, and we expect the majority will exceed those estimates.”

“Although the impact is less than feared, we are anticipating some residual effects in the third quarter of 2011 as friction in the supply chain may impact some production and some surprises may occur,” Mr. Middleton said. “However, once third-quarter trends are established and supply chain participants are satisfied that all issues are understood and production is normalized, we expect an effort to draw down inventory, which will weaken the semiconductor market in late 2011 and early 2012.”

Gartner forecasts worldwide application-specific standard product (ASSP) revenue to reach $79.7 billion in 2011 and grow to $99.4 billion by the end of 2015.
