X Phishing Wave Collides With Dell’s AI-Fueled Earnings Boom

Two very different stories are unfolding across the technology landscape, but both reveal the growing influence of digital infrastructure. On one side, X users are facing a fresh wave of phishing and account-takeover attempts.

On the other, Dell Technologies is demonstrating how the enormous spending on artificial intelligence is translating into extraordinary demand for hardware.

The developments underline a defining reality of the digital economy: as technology becomes more valuable, both the opportunities and the threats surrounding it become more sophisticated.

X users have recently reported a surge in unsolicited password-reset emails and account-security notifications. X has said it is investigating the activity and that there is currently no evidence of a platform-wide breach.

The messages appear to be legitimate notifications generated through X’s systems, raising concerns that attackers may be attempting to exploit the reset process to gain control of accounts.

The danger is particularly significant because an X account is no longer simply a social-media identity. For many users, it represents a professional brand, a business distribution channel, a source of financial information and, increasingly, a gateway to digital services.

Compromised accounts can subsequently be used to impersonate trusted individuals, distribute fraudulent links, promote cryptocurrency scams or launch additional phishing campaigns.

The current environment demonstrates why phishing remains one of the most persistent cybersecurity threats. Attackers do not necessarily need to breach a company’s core infrastructure when they can manipulate users into surrendering credentials themselves.

Fake login alerts, password-reset requests and malicious websites can closely imitate legitimate communications. X itself warns users that phishing messages may disguise themselves as authentic communications in order to obtain passwords or other private information.

Yet while attackers are exploiting trust, investors are rewarding companies that are building the infrastructure behind the next technological revolution. Dell Technologies has emerged as a major beneficiary of the artificial-intelligence spending boom.

The company reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of roughly $47 billion, up 58% year over year, while adjusted earnings reached $7.04 per share, substantially above Wall Street’s $4.91 expectation. Its AI-optimized server business generated $16.4 billion in revenue, doubling from the previous year.

The most striking figure may be Dell’s backlog. AI-server orders reached $60.9 billion, contributing to a record $95 billion backlog.

Dell also raised its full-year revenue forecast to $192 billion and lifted its adjusted earnings outlook to $25.50 per share. The market responded immediately, with shares rising roughly 9% in premarket trading.

The numbers illustrate an important shift in the AI economy. Artificial intelligence is often discussed through the lens of models, chatbots and software, but behind every powerful model is a vast physical infrastructure of servers, networking equipment, processors, storage and data centers.

Dell’s results provide another indication that this infrastructure race remains exceptionally strong. There is, therefore, an intriguing contrast between the two stories.

The same digital transformation creating enormous corporate value is simultaneously expanding the attack surface available to criminals. AI infrastructure is becoming a multibillion-dollar growth engine, while digital identities are becoming increasingly valuable targets.

The lesson for businesses and individuals is straightforward: technological progress requires technological security. For investors, Dell’s performance suggests that the AI infrastructure cycle still has considerable momentum.

For X users, the phishing wave is a reminder that convenience and connectivity come with responsibility. The digital economy is expanding on both fronts—building more powerful machines while creating more valuable identities. The challenge will be ensuring that security evolves as quickly as the technology it is designed to protect.
