Bitcoin has staged a strong recovery following its election-night selloff, climbing above $80,281 according to CoinGecko data after briefly falling to $75,700 as Democrats secured control of Congress.
The rebound came amid shifting investor sentiment, aggressive options positioning and renewed attention to institutional cryptocurrency movements, highlighting the market’s sensitivity to political developments and large transactions.
The initial decline reflected concerns that Democratic control of Congress could complicate efforts to advance crypto-friendly legislation in the United States. Investors had anticipated further progress on regulatory clarity, stablecoin legislation and broader digital asset market reforms.

However, the election outcome raised questions about whether lawmakers would maintain the momentum behind several proposals considered favourable to the cryptocurrency industry.
Bitcoin’s drop to $75,700 demonstrated how quickly political uncertainty can influence market sentiment. The cryptocurrency recovered above $78,300 within hours before extending its gains beyond $80,281.
The latest price movement suggests that investors have begun reassessing the political implications rather than treating the election result as an immediate threat to the broader crypto market.
Liquidations on both sides of the market contributed to the sharp fluctuations. As Bitcoin declined, leveraged bullish positions were forced to close, adding selling pressure. When prices subsequently recovered, bearish traders faced increasing pressure, triggering further liquidations.
This sequence amplified the initial movement and accelerated Bitcoin’s rebound. Options activity pointed towards growing expectations of higher prices. Traders reportedly purchased approximately $420 million worth of Bitcoin call options while selling around $105 million.
Call options provide exposure to potential price increases, making them attractive when investors anticipate further appreciation. The imbalance between purchased calls and sold contracts suggests that some market participants are positioning for additional gains despite lingering political uncertainty.
However, options positioning does not guarantee that Bitcoin will continue rising. The market remains vulnerable to sudden reversals, particularly when leveraged trading and political developments combine to produce heightened volatility.
Meanwhile, institutional activity has introduced another important consideration. According to blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain, BlackRock transferred another 7,244 BTC, valued at approximately $558.3 million, and 63,595 ETH worth around $144.2 million to Coinbase Prime.
The transfers attracted attention because they coincided with substantial Ethereum outflows associated with BlackRock. Lookonchain data indicated that these movements had reached 580,145 ETH, valued at approximately $1.32 billion, during the month.
Large cryptocurrency transfers to exchange-linked platforms can raise concerns about potential selling pressure. Investors often interpret such movements as possible preparations to liquidate holdings, especially when substantial quantities of Bitcoin and Ethereum are involved.
Transfers to Coinbase Prime do not necessarily indicate an intention to sell. Institutional investors use prime brokerage platforms for custody, settlement, liquidity management and other operational requirements. Therefore, blockchain transfers should not automatically be interpreted as confirmed sales without additional evidence.
Bitcoin’s recovery above $80,281 places renewed focus on whether bullish momentum can overcome political uncertainty and concerns surrounding institutional flows. The combination of aggressive options positioning, market liquidations and major asset transfers could continue influencing short-term price movements.
For now, the rebound demonstrates that investors remain willing to buy Bitcoin despite uncertainty surrounding Washington’s regulatory direction. Whether the recovery develops into a sustained rally will depend on market demand, institutional activity and the broader economic environment.
