Bybit, one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, was hacked yesterday and has reported losses of over $1.5 billion in several tokens. About 90 minutes after the attack, CEO Ben Zhou confirmed the breach and outlined immediate mitigation steps, including securing a bridge loan to cover losses. Bybit has also assured investors that their assets are safe and their withdrawals have now gone back to normalcy.
Perpetrators Identified as Lazarus Group
Investigators suspect the Lazarus Group, a North Korean hacking organization notorious for crypto heists, is behind the theft. Blockchain analyst ZachXBT linked the $1.5B theft to Lazarus through wallet transactions.
