Devakumar Edwin, a group executive at Dangote, confirmed the commencement of diesel and jet fuel distribution to the local market.
“We have substantial quantities. Products are being evacuated both by sea and road. Ships are lining up one after another to load diesel and aviation jet fuel. Ships load a minimum of 26 million liters, though we try to push for 37 million liters vessels, for ease of operations,” Edwin explained.
Yes, Dangote Refinery is delivering products, and will likely fix huge frictions in the Nigerian downstream oil and gas sector. This is a remarkable success and I want to congratulate Alhaji for this. The tenacity to build and get products into the market over financial engineering is how nations rise. Dangote is building Nigeria and this refinery is a BIG one for Africa.

It’s a big one, Aliko Dangote is a large Nigerian. Just like Allen Onyema has demonstrated that it’s possible to serve Nigerians at cheaper rate than foreign entities, that price of N1225 for a litre of diesel needs to be looked into again. It’s diesel that determines price of food items here, so if it’s still up there, don’t expect cost of food to come down. If it’s a crude oil supply issue, it needs to be resolved, so that every Nigerian can notice some difference between imported diesel and Dangote Refinery diesel.

As for the struggling UK universities, if this kind of report does not wake up most Nigerians and larger Africans, I wonder what will. Please don’t tell me politicians this or leadership that, because it is the PEOPLE that determine what their country becomes, and not politicians. Which opportunities do you find in the UK or elsewhere that cannot be replicated across Africa? We just remain determined to be ‘follow-follow’ and still find ways to justify such ineptitude and lack of initiative.
There’s no saner clime anywhere, until the sons and daughters of the land rise up and take responsibility. Many countries set up ridiculous universities purely for foreign students, and we sheepishly troop in, without sitting down to ever ask ourselves why the traffic isn’t flowing in our direction too. The mental slavery has lasted beyond the imagination of the perpetrators, so it’s no longer their fault but ours.
If you don’t build your home front, whatever you do elsewhere will fall short, because if truly have what it takes to do it, then do it in your Motherland, else just look for somewhere and hide.
