A "punk" actor is criticized by Timothée Chalamet for doubting his acting skills.

Timothée Chalamet describes an awkward meeting with an ex-co-star. The Oscar-nominated actor disclosed that, ostensibly because of his degree of training, a mystery coworker on one of his previous projects disparaged his acting abilities while they were collaborating.

“No names, but the guy was a punk,” Timothée informed Matthew McConaughey in an interview that Variety released on February 21. “He asked me what conservatory I had gone to, and I said I didn’t go to an acting conservatory. And he said, ‘Well, you haven’t trained as an actor then.’ And we were all part of an ensemble.”

The Marty Supreme star, who is currently dating Kylie Jenner, stated that he has become used to ignoring unsolicited job advice despite the seeming jab.

“I always said, ‘Beware of the people in life that get more of the advice they give you than you get at the advice,’” he clarified. “They’re thrilled by the act of giving you advice. All of a sudden you can’t listen to what they’re saying anymore because they’re flexing on you so hard.”

Although the 30-year-old Timothée did not disclose identify the costar, he did make it clear that Matthew, with whom he costarred in 2014's Interstellar, did not adopt the same strategy.

“You never did that to me, though,” he informed the Oscar winner, “which I’m grateful for.”

Timothée has often talked about his love for his work throughout the years. As he accepted his 2025 SAG Award for his performance as Bob Dylan in the movie A Complete Unknown, he actually talked about his ambition to "be one of the greats."

“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness,” he stated at the ceremony in February 2025. “I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So, I’m deeply grateful.”
