A refresher on Wednesday Season One ahead of Season 2's release on August 6 featuring Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Luis Guzmán.

She’s creepy, kooky, and ready to make her return to the screen. Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday both captivated and unsettled audiences during the first season of the Netflix series, which debuted in 2022. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly three years since Jenna, Christina Ricci, Fred Armisen, Luis Guzmán, and Catherine Zeta-Jones brought the Addams family to life for a new generation.

Therefore, it is normal to wonder, "Wait, what even happened in season one?" before season two premieres on Wednesday, August 6.

Before we head back to Nevermore Academy, the school for "outcasts," rest assured that this is the official summary.

Let us set the scenario first. Wednesday arrives at Nevermore, the alma mater of her parents, Morticia and Gomez, heels dragging, but she is far too proud to be kicking and screaming. Her werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) and fellow beekeeper Eugene Ottinger (Moosa Mostafa) push her out of her shell, albeit reluctantly, even if it takes her some time to get used to the customs.

Talking to neighborhood barista and "normie" Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) makes the situation seem less hopeless.

In Wednesday, however, things take a violent turn when Rowan Laslow, a fellow student, is killed by a hideous creature that we will eventually learn is a Hyde. Attacks and unexplained incidents persist despite shapeshifter Principal Weems's (Gwendoline Christie) attempts to conceal Rowan's passing.

Wednesday then begin to have visions of her ancestor Goody Addams from the 1600s, where she sees Goody confront pilgrim Joseph Crackstone, who massacred a group of outcasts, including Goody's mother, by burning them alive inside a barn, despite being hailed as the founder of the nearby town of Jericho.

Then, when Morticia (Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Gúzman) arrive and a decades-old murder accusation surface, the far more recent past rears its ugly head. Gomez was detained while attending Nevermore on accusations of murdering Crackstone descendant Garrett Gates. Since then, his sister Laurel Gates and other members of his family have all died inexplicably awful ways.

Wednesday and Morticia must work together to prove Gomez's innocence after their research reveals Garrett's covert plan to murder the Nevermore students at the yearly Rave'N event. The vial of poison concealed in Gomez's jacket was crushed when Garrett tackled him, killing the teenager.

Now that her father has been declared not guilty, Wednesday is back to work on discovering Goody and Crackstone's secrets. Wednesday enlists the aid of Tyler, Eugene, and Enid as she strives to make connections between the past and the present, despite the questioning from her therapist Dr. Kinbott (Riki Lindhome) and the attempts to do so from her instructor Marilyn Thornhill (Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1991 movie).

The shocking conclusion of their study is that, although her alias is unknown, Laurel Gates is alive and in control of the Hyde.

Despite or maybe because of his frequent offers of help, Wednesday's increasingly desperate quest for answers leads her to suspect classmate Xavier (Percy Hynes White). She soon finds evidence that he is the Hyde, and Tyler's father, Sheriff Galpin, arrests Xavier.

Despite her better judgment, Wednesday finds that she and Tyler are becoming closer. She even brings Tyler along as a date to the Rave'N dance (with the unwanted help of Thing) and kisses him in the café after work. But Wednesday gets a revelation that changes everything the moment their lips meet: Tyler is the Hyde. “Of course, the first boy I kiss would turn out to be a psychotic, serial-killing monster. I guess I have a type.” jokes Wednesday. I suppose I am a type.

After that, Wednesday entices Tyler to the school and uses torture to get him to reveal who he is. Thinking she has finally gone too far, Wednesday's friends report her to Weems, and she is expelled and arrested. However, Tyler tells her the truth while she is handcuffed in the police station.

Maintaining up altogether? Because there is another twist. After being hospitalized following an incident with the Hyde, Eugene awakens from his coma and accuses Ms. Thornhill, who turns out to be Laurel Gates. Thornhill confesses to controlling and manipulating Tyler during a confrontation, killing Weems, and subduing Wednesday.

At that moment, Laurel reveals her scheme to use Wednesday's blood to bring the insane pilgrim back to life in order to destroy Nevermore forevermore and bring back Joseph Crackstone.

What follows? Eugene assists in defeating Laurel, Wednesday destroys the pilgrim with the aid of siren Bianca (Joy Sunday), and Enid, in her werewolf form, defeats Tyler as the Hyde.

In the end, Nevermore closes for the rest of the semester, Tyler is arrested, Xavier is freed from jail, and the other students are sent home.

Additionally, creator Miles Millar affirmed the Laurel Gates-Crackstone storyline was strictly a one-season arc, even if Jenna hinted that the second episode of the series would start with her capture.

However, he told Tudum of Netflix. “Not all the loose ends have been tied up as neatly as Wednesday thinks they have. And she loves the idea of a new mystery.”

On Netflix, Wednesday season 2 starring Lady Gaga will debut in its first portion on August 6 and its second part on September 3.
