Becky G is appreciative of their unique bond. The singer of Encuentros enthused about her relationship with Selena Gomez and the reassuring lesson she has taken away from her.
“She’s been so authentic throughout her journey,” the 28-year-old Becky revealed exclusively during the TIME100 Next Gala on October 30, where she received recognition as an emerging talent. “We live in a time, especially when you’ve existed in an industry since a young age, where a lot of people try to tell you who you are. And that journey of finding your voice and becoming who you’ve always been on the inside is not an easy one.”
In fact, for the last ten years of her career, the 33-year-old Revival singer has been outspoken about discovering who she is as a vocalist and a mental health champion. And it inspires Becky (actual name Rebbeca Marie Gomez) to witness Selena embrace that stage of her path toward self-love.

“She’s been very courageous with that, and that’s something that I admire so much about her,” she went on. “She’s such a beautiful person inside and out.”
Selena, who is married to Benny Blanco, was also praised by Becky for writing a heartfelt ode to her as part of her inclusion on TIME's 100 Next list. The founder of Rare Beauty described her as "an advocate and a voice for our community" in the note dated September 30. She also stated that "the world needs more energy like my friend Becky's."
The "Que Haces" singer was already in awe at the accolade, but Selena's compliment left her even more astounded.
“It was a complete surprise to me,” she said. stating that when it came to disclosing information about the homage, “my team kept their lips sealed,” “there were tears. I’m very thankful to my other sister Gomez that she took that on and had such beautiful, thoughtful words.”
In keeping with her initial name, Becky is now looking forward to showcasing that personal career path in her upcoming documentary Rebbeca.
“After many years of therapy, I didn’t identify [my career] the way that I do now: a form of escapism and a safe place for me to find myself,” the project is scheduled for release in December, she explained. “I feel like that’s where Becky G began. Becky G saved Rebbeca, and now it’s Rebbeca’s turn to do the same for Becky G.”
