Aqueelah Adendorf honored Jayden Adams after his death at 25, writing, "I will carry your love with me forever."

The spouse of Jayden Adams is mourning the passing of her closest friend. Aqueelah Adendorf, the South African soccer player's longterm lover, posted a devastating tribute on social media after learning of his passing at the age of 25.

"There are no words to describe the pain I’m feeling," along with pictures of herself and Adams, she posted on Instagram on July 11. "Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug, and every moment we shared. You were not only the love of my life but also my greatest supporter and my best friend."

Adendorf, who and Adams had a 5-year-old daughter, went on, "A part of my heart left with you, and I will carry your love with me forever."

"Until we meet again, I’ll miss you every single day," she continued. "Rest easy, my angel. I love you always and forever."

Gayton McKenzie, the minister of sports, arts, and culture of South Africa, revealed Adams' unexpected passing a few hours earlier. Just two weeks earlier, the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder participated in the 2026 World Cup with South Africa's men's national soccer team, affectionately known as Bafana Bafana.

"It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams," McKenzie stated in a statement on July 11. "South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents, and our nation mourns alongside his family, his team-mates and the millions of supporters who watched him grow from a promising academy prospect into a full Bafana Bafana international."

He stated that the "cause of Jayden's passing has not yet been confirmed" and asked soccer fans and the media to "refrain from speculation" while the investigation is underway.

Adams participated in all three of South Africa's group games at the 2026 World Cup, including the team's 1-0 victory over South Korea, 2-0 defeat to Mexico, and 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic in Group A.

In a lengthy social media homage last month, Adendorf expressed her support for Adams ahead of his World Cup debut.

"Watching you achieve something this big has filled my heart with so much pride," she posted on Instagram on May 27. "From the hard work, sacrifices, early mornings, disappointments, and moments nobody saw—you kept going, stayed disciplined, and trusted God through it all. And now look at you… representing your country on the national team."

Adendorf continued by calling Adam "inspiring" and commending him for persevering in pursuing his goals in the face of obstacles.

"No matter how far this journey takes you, just know I’ll always be your biggest supporter, loudest cheerleader, and safest place," she added. "This is only the beginning for you, my love. May God continue to guide your steps, protect you, and open even bigger doors for your future. Keep shining, keep believing, and keep making us proud. Your hard work is finally paying off and I know there’s still so much more greatness waiting for you."
