Six months after the film first released in theaters, the highly anticipated sequel’s trailer dropped June 4, bringing fans back to Oz with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who reprise their Oscar-nominated roles as enemies turned best friends, Glinda and Elphaba.

The trailer teases emotional moments, including Elphaba telling Glinda, "You're the only friend I ever had," to which Glinda responds, "And I've had so many friends." Fans also get a taste of iconic songs like No Good Deed and For Good, along with brand-new tracks composed by Stephen Schwartz.

Fans were treated to brief excerpts of the songs "No Good Deed" and "For Good," as well as the consequences of Elphaba's defiance of the wizard, which led to Prince Fiyero (played by Jonathan Bailey) pursuing her.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film picks up where Wicked: Part One left off, following Elphaba as she fights against the Wizard’s deception while Glinda struggles with her newfound fame and political power. The sequel is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.

Jon M. Chu's Wicked which made a brief return to the big screen on June 4, bringing Act Two of the musical to life and providing viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the teaser for the follow-up, which will be officially released in theaters on November 21, 2025.

Universal Pictures released a teaser ahead of the trailer, which featured a piano rendition of "For Good" for each of the actors as Ariana and Cynthia sang the well-known line, "I have been changed," into the Wicked: For Good title screen.

The first character to show up is Cynthia, who changes into the Wicked Witch of the West by wearing Elphaba's witch cap and a new hairstyle. Next in the clip are Jeff Goldblum, the Wizard himself, Michelle Yeoh's Madame Morrible, and Prince Fiyero. Marissa Bode plays Nessarose, and Ethan Slater, who has been romantically associated with Ariana since July 2023, follows.

In the title, Ariana, who wields Glinda's magic wand, has also changed, donning a new gown and tiara instead of her Shiz University outfit.

Viewers witnessed Elphaba's longstanding ambition of seeing the Wonderful Wizard of Oz come true when she entered the Wizard's presence arm in arm with Glinda during our most recent trip to the Emerald City. But when it becomes evident that the Wizard is responsible for the destruction done to the animal's Elphaba came to protect, she runs away with Oz's spellbook, the Grimmerie.

Divided by their ideals and hopes for the future, Glinda and Elphaba bid a somber farewell to Act One's stirring farewell ballad, "Defying Gravity." Officially the antagonist of Oz, the Wicked Witch, escapes on her broom.

Returning to the yellow brick road, Wicked: For Good continues the musical's second act, where Glinda is playing Oz as the "Good Witch" and Elphaba is still fighting for the animals despite being labeled a state enemy. Naturally, a new guest from Kansas has also arrived in Munchkinland. Wicked: For Good, however, will be as much of an emotional journey for the characters as the first, according to the Oscar-nominated filmmaker.

“If movie one is about choices,” Jon shared Jan. 5, “movie two is about consequences.”

He went on, “How difficult, how messy the nuances become when two characters must find their way, and yet their destinations are so different from each other, and how heartbreaking and courageous that can be for both as they develop.”

Even if we cannot wait to see the Wizard again, Wicked: For Good is not the only exciting movie that will be released in theaters in 2025. Are you excited to return to Oz? 🎭✨
