Ariana Grande Goes Dark With Gory “Petal” Music Video.

Here in paradise, heartbreak won't bite—but Ariana Grande may. On July 31, the 33-year-old unveiled the music video for "petal," the most recent single off her eighth studio album of the same name.

Grande humorously alludes to the singer of "Into You"' own experience in the entertainment world by portraying Pepper, a doe-eyed aspiring actress who experiences criticism after rejection during an audition at Fame Inc.

Additionally, Glinda the Good Witch is not present here, in case you were anticipating her. "All of my favorite stories end in some kind of catastrophe," as Grande sings in the song, and the music video is no exception.

In fact, the "petal" video concludes with a bloody chainsaw bloodbath in which Pepper slices up the executives who have been criticizing her talent and looks. Despite having to leave season 13 of American Horror Story earlier this year, the "yes, and?" singer is still an absolute screaming legend.

Also, the album's tone, which Grande has referred to as "a little feral," is reflected in the images. The Wicked actress recently revealed that she utilized her "unfiltered rage" to create her new songs, which are harsher than her previous work.

“It pulls from many different parts of myself and yet, at the same time, it is very experimental and different for me,” in a July 29 Apple Music clip, she stated. “I wrote from a place that I don’t usually, which was like an unfiltered rage that I think we all feel sometimes.”

Grande, who recently restarted her romance with Ricky Alvarez after splitting from Ethan Slater earlier this year, acknowledged that she frequently feels too embarrassed to express her rage and clarified that she felt free when making the record.

“This time, I didn’t filter as much as I usually do,” she added. “I usually do a lot of rewrites and make things a little kinder. This time, I didn’t.”
