ChatGPT Unleashes Fear on Google Search
We discussed here that ChatGPT will offer a new basis of competition which is totally orthogonal to whatever Google Search does, through its disruptive capabilities of giving you results, over just links as Google does. It can raise money, make the results near-real time by indexing more web contents. Simply, it can offer a summary on the topic and also give you links. By doing that, it abstracts the core value proposition of Google Search and disintermediates its fundamental mission.
Reportedly, Google is concerned because the disruption is possible as the threat is real: "Rattled by the growing popularity of ChatGPT, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, is reportedly making moves to address potential threats the new AI-powered search machine may pose to its business."
