And while Collin said he was confused at the time, he came to develop his own theories about Kate’s motivations.

“Our family was under a spotlight 24/7," Collin continued. "My mother, especially following her divorce, there was this light cast on her as a single mother, taking care of eight children. And I believe strongly I know strongly the reason I was sent away was for my mother to protect her reputation.”

Kate whom previously refuted Collin’s claims about why he was sent away in a 2023 Instagram post, writing, "My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment.”

When Jon was awarded custody and removed him from the institution in 2018, Collin moved in with his father and sister, Hannah, but he has since been estranged from the rest of his family.
