Game of Thrones Revelations Still Rule the Seven Kingdoms as Its Prequel Lands Nine Emmy Nominations.

Now that prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is up for nine prizes at this year's gala, which will take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, showrunner Ira Parker is reassured that the TV Academy also "holds us in high-ish esteem."
"I guess the big feeling was relief—to know that it wasn’t just all an illusion, that [A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] did connect with people," in July, he joked to The Hollywood Reporter that "if your lead character takes a violent s--t onscreen in the first five minutes, you pretty much preclude your series from awards consideration."

"We consider it recognition for the whole show and, especially, for our crew in Belfast, who deserve it the most," Parker went on to discuss the nominees, such as Outstanding Drama Series. "We had such an incredible crew of actors, and we were a first season show."
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on George R. R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, centers on the boyish Prince Aegon V Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell), who eventually becomes the great-grandfather of Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen character, and the lowborn hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey).
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' first season focused solely on a three-day competition at the remote Ashford Meadow, whereas Game of Thrones' first season featured multiple plots across two continents.
Bringing this story to life was "a pleasure and a curse" for Parker.
"Production-wise, it’s still hard," in a January interview with Esquire, he acknowledged that working with a cast far smaller than that of Game of Thrones or its other prequel series, House of the Dragon, implies "you can't just go off to some other story and wait for that to ramp up everything."
In his own words, "You’re cutting from Dunk to Dunk, so you better make sure you have all your s--t straight."
In particular, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been revived for a second season by HBO.
"We’ve been shooting [season two] every day for the last two weeks," Parker revealed at that moment. "We'll see how the audience responds and we'll go from there, but I love these characters and I love these stories so much."
Although Parker finds the straightforward narrative of A Knight of the Seven Kingdom "refreshing," he also recognizes that "people can get just as sick of this sort of thing and want something bigger."
"That's probably how we got Game of Thrones to begin with," Parker went on to say. "Everything was a little quieter, following one person and one POV. Then, all of a sudden, you have all these sprawling stories that no one can keep track of."
