Gregory Zecca is having a hard time recovering from a horrific event. A representative for the family informed TMZ July 21 that Duane "Dog" Chapman's stepson, who shot and killed his 13-year-old son Anthony in an unintentional shooting, has been placed on psychiatric hold because he is so distraught over the loss of his child.
According to the representative, Zecca—the son of Francie Frane, the wife of the Dog the Bounty Hunter star, and her late husband—has been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold, which means he has been involuntarily detained for 72 hours because he has a mental health disorder, poses a risk to himself or others, or is severely disabled.
His representative told TMZ that Zecca's hold is not because he feels guilty of a crime related to the shooting, but rather because he is grieving over the tragedy. On July 19, Zecca shot and killed his kid at their Naples, Florida apartment. The Collier County Sheriff's Office announced two days later that they are performing a "death investigation" in relation to the shooting, which they characterized as an "isolated incident."
In a statement released on July 21, the police department said, “Our detectives are conducting a thorough investigation looking into all the elements of this tragic incident,” “The investigation includes statements from witnesses who were at the scene, forensic testing, subpoenas, and search warrants.”
Also, Zecca has not yet discussed the accident in public, but his mother and stepfather have since acknowledged the family's tragic loss.
According to a statement with TMZ on July 20, Chapman and Frane's representatives said. "We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident,” “and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony."
