Happy Independence Day, Nigeria
Quote from Ndubuisi Ekekwe on October 1, 2026, 5:58 AM
Today, I wish everyone a Happy Independence Day in Nigeria. May Nigerians rise to the mountaintop and experience the boundless promise of October 1, 1960, when the Green-White-Green was raised as the British Union Jack was lowered.
As we celebrate our political independence, we must work towards freedom from the economic paralysis holding our nation back. The promise of independence must become the rise of all Nigerians, not merely the progress of a privileged few.
On a personal level, Nigeria has worked for me. It offered many of the opportunities a young man could have desired, and for that, I remain profoundly grateful. Yet I recognize that many Nigerians cannot share the same testimony. That is why we must work harder to scale opportunity, abundance and hope across our nation.
Every Nigerian deserves independence from poverty, tribalism, nepotism and exclusion. Delivering that freedom must become our collective pursuit. Let us work towards it. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
