How Candace Cameron Bure Overcame a "Really Rough Season" with Valeri Bure Thanks to an Unexpected Guide.

Candace Cameron Bure recently opened up about a deeply challenging period in her marriage to Valeri Bure, revealing that their relationship hit a low point around 2020. On her podcast, she described it as a time when things were “going south quickly,” and she wasn’t sure they’d make it through.

In reference to the status of their relationship in 2020, Candace stated on the July 8 episode of the Candace Cameron Bure podcast, "It was going south quickly." “And I was like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know if we’re gonna make it through.’”

What turned things around? Surprisingly, it was their son, Lev, who stepped in with wisdom beyond his years. He sat his parents down and delivered what Candace described as a 45-minute sermon on marriage—with his Bible open beside him. Despite being young and unmarried, Lev told them, “I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says.” His calm, thoughtful approach prompted both Candace and Valeri to reflect deeply on their commitment and whether they were truly doing everything they could to save their relationship.

That moment became a turning point. Candace said it shifted their perspective and helped them reconnect with the core of their relationship: their family. She credited their children—Lev, Maksim, and Natasha—for being incredibly supportive during that time.

The Home Sweet Christmas actress clarified, "He was just such a calm voice that so much wisdom behind it." “And he looked us straight in the eye and individually asked me and asked Val, ‘Have you done everything you can?’ We walked away from that, and Val and I were like, ‘We raised pretty good kids.’”

She clarified, "That was like the pivotal moment." “It really changed for us after that talk. It’s a whole different scenario when your kids sit you down to talk and say, ‘Are you being as mature as you can be?’”

She went on, “I’m so grateful to Lev, and Maks and Natasha. They were so supportive of everything."

Since then, the couple has celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary, and Candace has spoken candidly about how the pandemic forced them to confront long-avoided issues, ultimately strengthening their bond.

"All the things that we have avoided for years talking about, they all surfaced, and they were in our face," In March 2021, she stated this in an interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle. “And it was unavoidable to actually have these discussions with one another and work through the real deal crap.”

“31 years ago, we went on our first official date at his practice rink in Fredericton, New Brunswick. @dcoulier introduced us at a charity hockey game in Los Angeles 4 months earlier,” she posted on Instagram on June 22. “30 years ago on June 20th, we got engaged in Paris. 29 years ago today, June 22nd, we got married. We grew a beautiful family. Happy anniversary to my love and best friend forever. And this was the song for our first dance.”

However, given that both Candace and Val did celebrate their wedding anniversary last month, it is clear that they have resolved their differences.

It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes the most unexpected voices—like your own child—can offer the clarity needed to heal.
